We get a lot of calls that start with "how much is a bathroom?" Fair question. The honest answer is that it depends on which kind of bathroom project you mean. Adding a new bathroom as part of a basement finish and remodeling an existing bathroom upstairs are two different jobs, and they're priced two different ways.

Here's how it breaks down.
Remodeling an existing bathroom
This is the dated hall bath, the primary bath with the builder-grade everything, or the guest bath with the tile from another decade. You've already got a bathroom. You want a better one.
A bathroom remodel can include:
- Tile showers and surrounds
- Vanities, counters and fixtures
- Freestanding or soaker tubs
- Waterproof tile or LVP flooring
- Plumbing and electrical behind the walls, done to code
Typical bathroom remodels run $15,000 to $40,000 and up, depending on scope and finish level. A refresh with a new vanity and flooring sits lower in that range. A full gut with a custom tile shower sits higher.
Adding a bathroom in a basement finish
This one's different. You're building a bathroom where there wasn't one, as part of turning an unfinished basement into living space.
In our basement pricing, the base finish covers framing, insulation, electrical, plumbing and HVAC rough-in, drywall and finishes. The rough-in is in the base number. The bathroom itself, meaning the tub, the tile, the fan and the fixtures, is priced on top. Each basement bathroom adds $12,000 and up.
Your written estimate lists the base finish and the bathroom separately so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Why they're priced differently
A basement bathroom rides along with a bigger project. The walls are being framed anyway, the systems are being run anyway, and the inspections are already scheduled. A standalone remodel upstairs is its own project with its own demo, protection of the finished house around it, and its own scope.
Doing both
Plenty of people do both, like a basement finish with a new bathroom plus a remodel of the dated bath upstairs. One free written estimate can cover the whole list, with each piece itemized.
What's not in either number
Custom features like a wet bar in the basement or high-end finishes upstairs get priced in your estimate. None of that is hiding inside the base numbers.
Permits
On permitted bathroom work, we file and manage the permit with your city and schedule the inspections, whether you're in Denver, Thornton, Arvada, Lakewood, Aurora or anywhere else in the metro. Every Saw Dog basement is permitted and inspected.
The bottom line
- Existing bathroom remodel: typically $15,000 to $40,000 and up
- New bathroom in a basement finish: $12,000 and up, on top of the base finish
Those are planning numbers, not quotes. Your free written, itemized estimate sets the real price.
Tips before you call
A few things help us give you a useful number faster. For a remodel, know which bathroom and what bugs you about it. For a basement bathroom, know roughly how big the basement is and where you'd want the bathroom. Photos help too. Then we'll walk it in person and write it up.
